Facilities

Fitness Center - 2nd Floor Stern Student Center

The Fitness Center is a 2,000-square-foot facility featuring nine TRUE treadmills, nine TRUE elliptical trainers, a combination of nine upright and recumbent exercise bikes, a full circuit of Free Motion resistance training equipment, and a small complement of dumbbells and medicine balls.

East Shore Athletic Club (ESAC) - 80 Wentworth Street

All 11 ESAC locations are available to students and include 24-hour access. The campus location at 80 Wentworth Street includes both cardio equipment and a variety of strength training equipment including free weights.

To begin using the ESAC facilities, students will first register with ESAC at the Wentworth Street location. As part of the registration process a valid Cougar Card must be presented. Students will have to register each semester if they wish to continue using the ESAC locations.

Johnson and Silcox Centers - 30 George Street

One large activity center was formed by combining these two gymnasiums. The F. Mitchell Johnson Physical Education Center (built in 1981) and the Willard A. Silcox Physical Education and Health Center (renovated in 1995) occupy the corner of George and Meeting streets.

Housed in these gymnasiums are four basketball courts, five volleyball courts, six badminton courts, a space for indoor soccer, an indoor running track, a small workout area, locker and shower areas, five racquetball courts (two of which are convertible to squash courts), and a 4,900-square-foot multi-purpose room.

Indoor Running Track - Silcox Gym

When the weather is uncooperative, you can always count on this little gem awaiting you (one mile for every 14.5 laps).

Swimming Pool - Stern Student Center

The College's 25-meter swimming pool handles a busy schedule of classes, varsity swim team events, and recreational swim times. Contact the aquatics director at 843.953.5960 for scheduling information.

Multi-Purpose Room - J201 Johnson Center

This 4,900-square-foot studio is used extensively for Health and Human Performance classes, campus receration services fitness classes, and sport club practices. Contact the Campus Recreation Services director about room reservation requests.

Outdoor Fields - "The Yard" on James Island

A short drive from campus is our 12-acre outdoor recreation site located adjacent to the James Island County Park. "The Yard", as we call it, serves the College's intramural sports leagues and the College's sport clubs.
