Meet our Group Fitness and Personal Training Supervisor

Sara Maria Coleman, MS, GFS, CSCS, CES

I am a proud Alumna of the Class of 2017 and a former student employee of the Campus Recreation Department, where I too, taught fitness classes as a student.  I have been teaching and learning about fitness, wellness, and strength and conditioning for over 6 years and occasionally pop-in and substitute some classes as well.  Fun fact about me is that I rescued two sister kittens named GiGi and BiBi and that I was born and raised in San Angelo, Texas.   I am excited for my new position here as the overseer of group fitness and personal training, and I am looking forward to what this group of smart individuals can bring our College of Charleston family on their journey to fitness. 

Meet Our Group Fitness Leaders

Roxy Buck (Senior): My name is Roxy Buck, a geology major with a passion for health and fitness, at The College of Charleston. I am the senior indoor cycling instructor, and I am so excited to get to know a great group of people in each of my classes. Before I started teaching cycling in the spring of 2019, I previously taught swim lessons and yoga. I love teaching in general and cycling is my favorite form of cardio. The most important part of a good workout is having fun, and I promise to make every one of my classes loads of fun!

Madelyn Schaner (Junior): Hi! My name is Maddie, and I am currently doing my pre-requisite courses to be able to apply to nursing school. I love everything outdoors and being adventurous. Fun fact about me, in 2019 I summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, one of the seven highest peaks. Exercise has always been a passion of mine and I hope to help or make it one of yours too! Can’t wait to see you at my HIIT classes!

Madi Gilhool (Junior)Hey y’all, I am Madi and an Exercise Science major at the college! On top of teaching yoga, I play rugby for the college as well and you can typically find me at Caviar & Bananas. All of my classes are accessible to all bodies no matter your age, weight, fitness level, whatever it may be. One of my favorite sayings from Baptiste Yoga (the style I predominantly teach) is Come as You Are, meaning all you need to do is show up and be you!

Lauren Nelson (Senior)My name is Lauren. I am a Public Health and Spanish double major and am very passionate about mindfulness and mental health. I have been teaching yoga since the summer of 2019 and love to share the amazing practice of yoga. I hope to create an open and loving place to connect back to the body and breath through yoga flows and meditations 

Lili Boss (Senior): I am CofC senior and an operational meteorology major with an environmental and sustainability studies minor at the College of Charleston and your Zumba instructor! I used to do dance and gymnastics when I was younger, and I got into Zumba by going with my mom to her classes. This is my first-time teaching Zumba through the College, but I did previously coach dance and gymnastics. Dance is my favorite way to exercise because everyone can have fun doing it. As a Zumba instructor, I promise to treat every workout like a party with multiple different dance styles such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia, Reggaeton, and hip hop

We are always looking for new potential group fitness leaders!  If you're interested in learning more or wanting to be a group fitness leader with our program, email Sara at

For all potential group fitness leaders, we will ask you to submit an updated resume and a general statement about your interest.  We are currently looking for interested students to fill a handful of group fitness leader positions.  Experience is not required but is preferred.  We will ask all potential group fitness leaders to either submit a mock live-recorded workout or ask you to demonstrate a live in-person workout.  Please reach out to us if you have questions.
